We offer a wide range of musical experiences including performances for any occasion, workshop programmes for children and even adults! Composition Programme YPCE 2017 April to December

Partnering with:

•              Ballina Arts Centre and National Concert Hall, Dublin

•              Secondary Schools in their rural and urban communities

•              Music students in Mayo Youth Orchestra

•              People with disabilities

 WhistleBlast will facilitate an exciting development of its highly successful Composition Programme:

To build upon our 2016 Programme in Ballina, Co Mayo by extending geographically and widening the reach and scope of our work towards a more nationwide opportunity: Mayo Youth Orchestra, 4 Secondary Schools and 2 Special Needs groups pooled from Dublin and Mayo.

Inclusive of 140 students, in total, of various backgrounds and abilities

The students will create a new art work through the Quartet’s inclusive, educational expertise in immersive workshop settings drawing on themes that are of particular relevance to their localities and lives. The performances of the New Work will take place in NCH, Dublin and Ballina Arts Centre, Co Mayo

The composition will evolve by working closely with WhistleBlast.

All musical resource materials relating to the programme will be provided by the Quartet for all teachers and leaders

We can't wait for the final performances in December.

Creative Music Making for Primary School Teachers

A Department of Education and Skills approved summer course for primary school teachers (approved for EPV days). 

Aligned with the primary school music curriculum, this course facilitated by Mary Curran, will encourage and equip teachers with or without a musical background to deliver imaginative, active and educational music sessions in the classroom. The course will deliver practical, hands-on experience in rhythm, percussion, song, composition, “Creative Orchestra”, different instruments, music history, performance and class management; all in enjoyable and engaging way.

Mayo Music Masterclasses in Castleblar

Join Mary Curran and members of the WhistleBlast Quartet for a MUSIC MASTERCLASS in BRASS, WOODWIND, PERCUSSION and STRINGS on Sunday 25 June at 11am to 5pm in St Patrick's School Hall, Castlebar. It is open to ALL students 12 to 20 years old.

The masterclass will be focused on creative music playing for young people aged 12 to 20 years and will be with members of the WhistleBlast Quartet. This is a highly educational and creative day of experimental composition and performance master classes with Mayo Youth Orchestra facilitated by WhistleBlast. The Orchestra is inviting other local young players to come along and participate.

There will be plenty of opportunity for participation in this engaging concert for all the family. Shakers and Boom Whackers for all! 

Suitable for 4-12 year olds and their families.

Concerts are in the John Field Room at 12pm and 1.30pm.

 "Local Memories" a brand new composition created and performed with WhistleBlast. This unique concert will include some Christmas favourites.

These fun and interactive music workshops provide an introduction to the world of rhythm, melody, singing, rap writing, and percussion, all with the emphasis on enjoyment and active music-making!

Designed to support and compliment the delivery of three strands of the primary school music curriculum, these workshops are available for booking to primary school groups.

Children are encouraged to partake in listening and responding, composing, and performing through games, singing and instrument playing.

 An interactive one hour concert including Prokofiev’s wonderful Peter and the Wolf performed and narrated by the WhistleBlast Quartet. A great introduction to Classical Music for audiences young and old.

During the day WhistleBlast will also perform a fun filled Concert for young orchestral players involved in the DIT/Axis School's programme.

PART 2 of SLOW DOWN! Belmullet Music/Song Programme

WhistleBlast’s Mary Curran has been working extensively with six Erris National Schools developing a performance involving songs, music and performance. Over weeks of hard learning Erris national schools: Doohoma, Inver, Binghamstown, Barnatra, Shraigh and Geesala have been introduced to many concepts of music.
The finale brings all six school groups together to perform a series of songs relating to the title “SLOW DOWN!”This includes an original composition, known songs such as Feeling Groovy and an Irish Tune as Gaeilge.
Acclaimed Pianist Conor Linehan and Hornist, Mary Curran will lead and perform with these fabulous school children.
Anyone is welcome to come along, support and listen to some great songs! Kindly hosted by Áras Inis Gluaire and funded by Mayo County Council.
